4. Pondicherry facility
Day 5 – Continuing up the coast, I attended the inaugurations of FCF-funded facilities built in Pondicherry. First the addition of a 60′ x 40′ “auditorium”-cum-all-purpose-room constructed at an orphanage run by Franciscan nuns, which houses 220 orphans full-time, as well as teaching another 1800 children from local fishing villages on a daily basis (Grades 1 – 10).
I also attended the inauguration of a medical facility that Family Care sponsored, which now has a 24/7 nurse on duty, plus a doctor that spends two days a week there. All consultations, treatment and medicines are provided free of charge to the surrounding community.
